In my last post, I covered three low-cost upgrades for the Modular Extraction Platform (MeP) and teased a fourth. Here it is, and it solves a problem almost every operator runs into: keeping contaminants away from your concentrate.
The Problem: "Mystery Oil" and Lost Run Time
Supply storage tanks from the gas supplier commonly contain a small amount of "mystery oil" that should be distilled out of the solvent before it goes into the MeP. Without a dedicated tank for this, operators have had to use the MeP's collection vessel to do it.
That creates several problems:
- It takes the MeP away from processing actual material runs.
- The operator has to clean the collection vessel before running any more material.
- If not cleaned thoroughly, trace amounts of mystery oil can still be left behind and contaminate your concentrates.
It's an inefficient process, and it goes against best practice. The collection vessel should be used only for concentrates, and anything that could contaminate them should stay out of it.
The Solution: The Distillation Tank Filter (DTF)
The DTF is a plug-and-play attachment for the MeP. It's an isolated tank that cleans solvent from supply storage tanks through distillation before that solvent ever reaches the MeP. Your collection vessel stays clean, and your MeP stays busy running material.
Three Ways to Put the DTF to Work
1. Cleaning solvent from the supply storage tank. This is the primary job. Distill out the mystery oil in the DTF instead of tying up the MeP and fouling the collection vessel.
2. Containing dust from the Color Remediation Chromatography (CRC) vessel. Filter media should always be washed and wetted with clean solvent before it's used with a solvent and cannabinoid slurry. This makes for a smooth transition and helps prevent clogging. Washing also flushes out fine dust that gets past the lower filter. That dust is very fine and hard to see, so if it ends up in the collection vessel, it's easy to miss when cleaning and can contaminate your concentrate. Washing it into the DTF means you don't have to worry about it.
3. Dry cleaning used material socks. Material socks get dirty, and cleaning them used to mean putting them in a material vessel. That takes away from material runs and sends dirty concentrate to the collection vessel. The DTF gives you a separate place to clean them.
My Recommended Setup
To get the most out of the DTF, I recommend adding two things:
- A clean solvent port from the injection rail to the DTF
- Contaminant lines from the media vessels into the DTF
Together, these make it easy to move solvent and waste where they belong without disturbing your collection vessel.
There is yet another upgrade that can work hand in hand with the DTF if distillation isn't enough to clean your solvent. I'll cover it in my next post, so be sure to check back.
Let Me Help You Get It Done
I can provide these upgrades, help install them, and train your operators to use them. The result is a more efficient process and a lot less time and headache. Contact me at [email protected], or see our full equipment services.
